Video: Hummingbirds Defy Description
More than 200 species of hummingbirds find shelter at the 70-plus reserves American Bird Conservancy supports across the Americas. That's more than 50 percent of the approximately 365 known hummingbird species! Here are a few of these flying jewels:
Ecuador's Esmeraldas Woodstar
Found only in the Americas, many hummingbird species are declining in population, with some threatened with extinction. Among the most endangered are Juan Fernández Firecrown, found only on Isla Robinson Crusoe off the coast of Chile. Esmeraldas Woodstar is equally rare — a tiny, 2.5-inch bird endemic to Ecuador's Pacific coast.
If you love hummingbirds, please consider supporting American Bird Conservancy's steadfast mission to protect the rarest birds today.
