North America’s 25 JVs Conserve and Restore Ecosystems

Working together, JVs take on the challenges facing species of conservation concern to reverse declines and enact strategies to keep common birds common. North America’s 25 JVs conserve and restore ecosystems while addressing the human dimensions of conservation, contributing to community well-being and resilience through initiatives that improve habitat and water quality and strengthen ecosystems for the benefit of wildlife and people.

The JV program began in 1986, sparked by efforts to conserve waterfowl, but JVs now encompass all bird groups and have since expanded to cover nearly all of the United States and Canada, as well as significant portions of northern and central Mexico. The work of each JV is as different as the habitats and species they cover, from Chestnut-collared Longspurs in the grasslands of the Chihuahuan Desert to Prothonotary Warblers in the cypress swamps of the Lower Mississippi River Delta. All JVs operate with a shared vision of a landscape where birds and people thrive.
