Amy Tan is the author of many books, including The Joy Luck Club, The Kitchen God’s Wife, The Hundred Secret Senses, The Bonesetter’s Daughter, The Opposite of Fate, Saving Fish from Drowning, The Valley of Amazement, and most recently Where The Past Begins: A Writer’s Memoir. She has written two children’s books, The Moon Lady and Sagwa the Chinese Siamese Cat. Tan was also a co-producer and co-screenwriter of the film version of The Joy Luck Club and the librettist for the opera based on The Bonesetter’s Daughter.

Tan is a recipient of the National Humanities Medal and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. In addition, she is the subject of an American Masters documentary, Amy Tan: Unintended Memoir, now on Netflix, and an instructor on fiction writing on MasterClass, both which highlight her passion for birds. Her nonfiction book, The Backyard Bird Chronicles, will be published in April 2024 by Knopf.
