Garrett Rhyne

Garrett Rhyne

Southeast Motus Station Coordinator

Garrett is an ecologist with a BS from Virginia Tech (’19) and an MS from Louisiana State University (’23). He has worked in a variety of field jobs from prescribed burning in North Carolina, to banding owls in Idaho, to tracking ant-following birds in the Congo Rainforest. While studying Swainson’s Warbler migration ecology for his master’s research, he expanded his affinity for understanding bird migration and conservation, especially with using different tracking technologies for understudied species.

With ABC, Garrett will help lead efforts to improve and expand the Motus Wildlife Tracking System across the southeastern US with a focus on increasing receiver infrastructure in the southern Appalachians. He will work with partners across many agencies, universities, and organizations to provide technical assistance and increase research capacity and conservation through Motus.
