Walter Vergara

Walter Vergara, Senior Fellow at the World Resources Institute, is a forests and climate specialist focused on the Global Restoration Initiative in Latin America. He leads Initiative 20×20, a country-led effort to bring 20 million hectares of land in Latin America and the Caribbean into restoration by 2020. Walter was previously Chief of the Climate Change Division at the Inter-American Development Bank and leader of the Climate Global Expert Group at the World Bank. He has written 14 books and many articles in peer-reviewed journals on climate issues. Walter has a M.Sc. degree from Cornell University and a Chemical Engineering degree from Universidad Nacional de Colombia.
