Carly Lapin
Great Lakes Public Lands Manager
Carly is the Great Lakes Public Lands Manager for ABC and is working to implement landscape scale conservation practices across public lands to improve habitat for birds.
Carly grew up in Southeast Wisconsin and always enjoyed being outdoors and exploring the State’s wild places, which led her to pursue a degree in Conservation Biology at UW Madison. She followed this up with a Master’s Degree from University of Minnesota Duluth, searching for Connecticut Warblers in the vast peatlands of the northern reaches of the state. Following grad school, Carly worked briefly in environmental consulting and a few bird field jobs before finding her way to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in Rhinelander.
From 2014 to 2026, Carly worked as the North Central Wisconsin District Ecologist for the WDNR’s Bureau of Natural Heritage Conservation. In this role, Carly gained experience in studying and protecting northern Wisconsin’s rare flora and fauna, managing and restoring State Natural Areas in the region, and providing conservation and management guidance for state-owned lands. Outside of work, Carly still loves spending time outdoors enjoying the public lands and waters of Wisconsin’s beautiful Northwoods. She enjoys many hobbies, especially skiing, hiking, paddling, knitting, and baking, and loves spending time with her friends, husband, and two boisterous dogs.
