Emilia earned an M.S. in Natural Resources (Forestry Emphasis) from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. Her thesis focused on irregular shelterwood, prescribed fire, and vegetation effects on Wisconsin forest avian communities; and creating an online tool for natural resource professionals that provides summary details of key habitat features and considerations for bird species observed/desired on managed sites. She also worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, teaching labs in GIS Applications in Natural Resources and Introduction to Fisheries, Forestry and Wildlife Resources. Emilia has worked across the U.S., gaining experience in forest management and vegetation surveys, bird surveying, netting, banding, territory mapping, nest-searching, translocations, and radiotelemetry tracking. She has worked with birds ranging from Ruby-throated Hummingbirds to Greater Sage-Grouse, and surveyed for additional species including herptiles, Karner Blue Butterflies, and Gray Wolves. Emilia is passionate about avian conservation and wildlife habitat management, as well as outreach and education to connect people to nature and science.
