For the sixth year in a row, American Bird Conservancy (ABC) has been named a “Top-Rated Nonprofit” by GreatNonprofits, the leading website for community recommendations of charities and nonprofits.

ABC has worked for nearly 30 years to protect wild birds and their habitats across the Americas, resulting in numerous species safeguarded from extinction, millions of acres conserved, and progress made to eliminate threats to birds and to build conservation capacity.

The Top-Rated Nonprofit Award is based on the rating and number of reviews that ABC received from volunteers, donors, and partners.

“ABC has repeatedly shown itself to be an innovative leader in dealing with such sensitive and complicated issues as window glass collision and feral cat predation, as well as more traditional land or habitat conservation challenges,” states one 2023 testimonial. 

Another supporter said, “Their [ABC] core approach to conservation through habitat preservation and restoration not only helps birds but myriad other species and there are many examples of how effective that approach has been. Their ability to partner with a wide array of other organizations allows those groups to prioritize conservation and makes conservation more accessible to people (from less-represented groups) who aren't always included in the discussion. I particularly appreciate ABC's increased attention to including diverse voices, both in the projects they undertake and in their employees.”

GreatNonprofits is a place for people to share stories about their personal experiences with more than 1.6 million charities and nonprofits. The GreatNonprofits Top-Rated Awards are the only awards for nonprofits determined by those who have direct experience with the charities.

ABC has also received recognition from other charity evaluators for nonprofit excellence. The group has been recognized as a "Four Star Charity" for 11 consecutive years by Charity Navigator — one of the world's largest and most trusted nonprofit evaluators — for financial stability, efficiency, and sustainability, as well as accountability and transparency policies that ensure integrity. This year, a score of 100 percent was specifically achieved. Less than one-tenth of one percent of rated charities earn a perfect score.

ABC is also top-rated by CharityWatch — an independent charity watchdog that has rated charities for more than 25 years — for the organization's donor transparency, governance, and financial commitment to making the biggest impact possible for birds. Finally, the organization has been commended with the 2023 Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid — the world's largest source of information on nonprofit organizations — which is only awarded to the top 15 percent of participating nonprofits.
