Indigenous Communications and Outreach Specialist

Ben Catcho Jr. is the Indigenous Communications & Outreach Specialist for Hawaiʻi with American Bird Conservancy, where he leads community engagement, education, and strategic outreach efforts supporting the conservation of Hawaiʻi’s native birds and ecosystems. With more than 10 years of experience as a classroom educator in public, private, and Hawaiian immersion schools, he brings a strong background in education, cultural learning, and community engagement to his work.

Through partnerships with schools, communities, conservation organizations, and government agencies, he works to increase public awareness of conservation challenges while fostering meaningful opportunities for people to connect with and support native species recovery efforts. As a Native Hawaiian educator and storyteller, Ben incorporates indigenous practices, place-based learning, and science communication to help bridge cultural and conservation perspectives, advancing American Bird Conservancy’s mission to conserve birds and the habitats they need throughout the Americas.
