If you are 70.5 years old or older, you can give any amount up to $100,000 per year directly from your IRA to ABC (or other qualified charities) without having to pay federal income taxes on the money. This qualified charitable deduction—QCD—is sometimes known as the IRA charitable rollover, and more and more ABC supporters taking advantage of it to create bird conservation results!
These gifts are not counted as taxable income and because it doesn't create a tax deduction, it may help you benefit even if you don't itemize your deductions. Your contribution can also qualify for your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).
Please remember:
• You can help ABC protect the birds of the Americas with this simple, tax-free way to make a gift.
• Your gift must be made directly from your IRA to ABC. If you first withdraw the funds from your account and then donate them to ABC, they do not qualify for the tax benefits. You can contact your IRA administrator to request this gift be made by check, and please be sure they include your name and address with it.
• You must have turned 70 ½ before January 1, 2020 for your IRA gift to qualify for your required minimum distribution. After that date, you must be 72 for your qualified charitable distribution to count towards your RMD.
• Your gift must be completed by December 31.
Checks should be made out to American Bird Conservancy and should be mailed to:
P.O. Box 249
The Plains, VA 20198
ABC's tax identification number is 52-1501259.
