Erin Weeks hails from coastal South Carolina and has spent her career in science writing advocating for southeastern waters and wildlife. She spent over a decade leading communications and media relations at the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources’ Marine Division, where she worked with biologists and fisheries managers on wildlife ranging from shrimp and blue crabs to manatees and tiger sharks. She has worked as a freelance science writer specializing in conservation and the environment as well as a staff communicator for conservation NGOs, universities, and an environmental radio program. Erin holds a graduate degree in science writing from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and undergraduate degrees in English and ecology from the University of South Carolina. She lives in Charleston, South Carolina and is happiest in the field with binoculars, paddle, or drip torch in hand.
