American Bird Conservancy Receives Top 2024 Nonprofit Ratings
For the seventh year in a row, American Bird Conservancy (ABC) has been named a “Top-Rated Nonprofit” by GreatNonprofits, the leading platform for community-sourced recommendations of charities and nonprofits. In addition, other leading charity evaluators including Charity Navigator, CharityWatch, and Candid have also awarded ABC with the highest rankings.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, ABC continues to take bold action to conserve wild birds and their habitats throughout the Western Hemisphere. ABC's mission-driven work has benefited more than 3,000 bird species to date, conserved millions of acres of habitat across 15 countries, and achieved numerous high-impact accomplishments by working together with dozens of partners. With a steady focus on its mission and delivering results, ABC puts a high priority on ensuring that all support received is used to make a positive difference for birds and their habitats on the ground.
"ABC supporters are at the heart of everything we've been able to achieve for the past 30 years," said Erin Chen, ABC's Vice President of Development. “We continue to be inspired and honored by their heartfelt testimonials and ongoing trust. We thank them all for making bird conservation possible.”
The Top-Rated Nonprofit Award is based on the rating and number of reviews that ABC received from volunteers, donors, and partners.
“ABC is an outstanding not-for-profit. Its programs to assist landowners in Latin America to manage farms so as to protect birds that breed in North America on their wintering grounds are well known in conservation circles. ABC also has innovative programs to urge homeowners to keep domestic cats indoors (that otherwise kill millions of wild birds every year) and to urge the use of window glass that is visible to migrating birds, who otherwise die in the millions from building strikes,” states one 2024 testimonial.
Another supporter said, “They work extremely hard [and] very effectively to protect birds in their summer and wintering grounds. This means partnering with Indigenous peoples, other organizations, and government entities across North, Central, and South America as well as in the Caribbean… They are innovative in their programs [and] collaborations. They perform extensive outreach as well, [and] are amazing at keeping their members informed of their work. I can't say enough about how wonderful [and] important this organization is.”
GreatNonprofits is a place for people to share stories about their personal experiences with more than 1.6 million charities and nonprofits. The GreatNonprofits Top-Rated Awards are the only awards for nonprofits determined by those who have direct experience with the charities.
ABC has also received recognition from other charity evaluators for nonprofit excellence. The group has been recognized as a "Four Star Charity" for 12 consecutive years by Charity Navigator — one of the world's largest and most trusted nonprofit evaluators — for financial stability, efficiency, and sustainability, as well as accountability and transparency policies that ensure integrity. This year, a score of 100 percent was specifically achieved. Less than one-tenth of one percent of rated charities earn a perfect score.
ABC is also top-rated by CharityWatch — an independent charity watchdog that has rated charities for more than 30 years — for the organization's donor transparency, governance, and financial commitment to making the biggest impact possible for birds. The organization has been commended with the 2024 Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid — the world's largest source of information on nonprofit organizations — which is only awarded to the top 15 percent of participating nonprofits. ABC was also recently featured as “Charity of the Week” in The Week magazine's November 15, 2024 publication.
