Laurie Smith

Laurie joins ABC as the Accounting Manager, bringing a uniquely diverse background that blends analytical expertise with a deep appreciation for the natural world. She holds a B.S. in Zoology from Michigan State University and a B.S. in Accounting from Saginaw Valley State University.

Before transitioning into accounting, Laurie built a rich career in animal care and conservation education. She worked at SeaWorld Orlando in conservation education and later at the Detroit Zoo in bird husbandry, caring for species such as Bald Eagles, Cranes, Rheas, Secretary Birds, and many Vultures. She also contributed to the Great Lakes Piping Plover project at the University of Michigan Biological Station.

Laurie continued sharing her passion for birds and conservation at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where she worked with parrots and birds of prey, presenting conservation-themed public programs featuring training and flight demonstrations.

Laurie is based in Michigan and enjoys baking and experiencing the change of seasons. Laurie’s favorite birds are ducks and shorebirds.
