Todd Fearer, an American Bird Conservancy (ABC) staffer and the coordinator of the Appalachian Mountains Joint Venture, recently received an award named in honor of one of ABC's longtime leaders.

The North American Bird Conservation Initiative (NABCI) presented Fearer with the 2022 David Pashley Award in November. NABCI created the award to memorialize and honor one of its founding members, David Pashley, who served as the first NABCI Coordinator and as ABC's Vice President for U.S. Conservation Partnerships until his death in 2018. The award recognizes excellence and significant contributions by a current U.S. NABCI Committee and Subcommittee participant.

Fearer has served as the longtime representative of Migratory Bird Habitat Joint Ventures on the U.S. NABCI Steering Committee and has been a leader on the Private Lands subcommittee. He also envisioned and steered to completion the NABCI Strategic Plan (2022-2027). It defines the U.S. NABCI's role in guiding a coordinated response to the loss of 3 billion birds within the NABCI partnership and broader conservation community.

Pashley was instrumental in creating NABCI in 1999 as a forum to facilitate collaborative partnerships to advance biological, social, and scientific priorities for North American bird conservation. Pashley, who was a beloved colleague and friend to many at ABC for 23 years, also helped establish Partners in Flight, the Western Hemisphere's largest bird conservation alliance. ABC congratulates Todd Fearer on his award. It is especially fitting that he receives an honor named for one of our organization's north stars.
